In the 1990s, the Baldur's Gate franchise took the fad two a whole new level with two smash hits that used the tabletop game's rules. The formula was simple but successful, consisting of a protagonist and their party traveling, leveling up, completing quests, and of course, filling those pockets with sweet, sweet treasure. Tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragonswere some of the first games to make it to computers and consoles when video games were still new.
